Gray announced the new 2026 dates with excitement, describing the 2025 tour as featuring "some of the most memorable and magical shows of my entire career" and emphasizing the band's strong performance and the enjoyment they experienced. He noted that with everyone in "such fine form," it felt right to continue the momentum.
Promoters have also expressed their enthusiasm. Peter Taylor, co-founder of Cuffe and Taylor, highlighted the pleasure of bringing a high-calibre artist with Welsh roots to Llangollen. Similarly, Nick Saunders of DEPOT Live anticipates an "incredible show" in Cardiff, especially with The Divine Comedy also performing.
Gray's performances in Cardiff and Llangollen are particularly meaningful due to his connection to Wales, having grown up in Pembrokeshire.
As his "Past & Present" tour extends into 2026, David Gray has offered several recent reflections on his live performances and the connection with his audience. His quotes reveal a deep-seated passion for performing, a desire for authentic audience interaction, and an acknowledgment of the environmental impact of touring.
On connecting with audiences
Gray has discussed his goal of being emotionally present on stage and fostering a genuine connection with concert-goers, moving beyond simply playing a setlist.
He told Billboard's "Behind the Setlist" podcast, "I want to be sort of emotionally present on stage, not just playing the set... I want it to be more than that".
Gray values spontaneous moments, such as taking unexpected fan requests. He described one such experience as "My favorite moment of the whole night. It'll be one of my favorite moments from the tour".
He added that this isn't just to "make a few dollars" but is driven by a deeper purpose: "I'm here for a different reason".
On the "return to gig mode"
Just before starting a round of shows in mid-2025, Gray shared his excitement on social media about shifting his focus back to performing after a period of rest and reflection.
"The curlew calls me back to my duties as a wandering singer!".
"I can feel my focus intensifying as mind and body prepare to re-enter GIG MODE. Hold that seat on the tour bus… I'm a comin'!".
